Chicago!

Woohoo! I just booked a weekend trip to Chicago with Andy! We are going over my birthday weekend (August 14-16). This will only be my second trip to Chicago, and the first time doesn't really count because I was probably 10 years old. So I need your help! If you have gone there recently, or even better, live there, what places should we visit? Any restaurants we should try? Is it a rip off to go on a boat tour? I want to try and squeeze as much as possible into the weekend, so your advice and tips would really be appreciated! Thanks!

I don't live there, but I use to live reallly close to it. Gino's East has the best pizza in Chicago! Its a VERY popular place so you wont have trouble finding it. The architectural boat tour is not a rip off, in my opinion. You see a lot of cool stuff and it really shows off the city! Navy Pier is a must see. And of course, shopping on Michigan Avenue! Have fun ! : D

I went to Chicago a year or two with my family (which is different than going with a boyfriend, for sure), but we ate at a few fabulous restaurants. One of them was called Spiaggia, which was absolutely amazing Italian food. My dad just said it was on N. Michigan Ave. And, since we're French (and I know you're a big fan of all things French), the restaurant Everest was some of the best French food I've ever had! I don't know where exactly that is though, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to look up! Enjoy your trip :)
(Oh, and let me know what you think when you read Pride & Prejudice - I hope you love it!).

I have lived most of my life in the Chicago area.
That is the weekend of the Air and Water show so if you can get near the lake all the better to see what is going on.
If you like Italian food try Scoozi (it is part of the Lettuce group but still very good).
If you want pizza there is always the stand by of Gino's but Lou Malnatti's is also good.
Navy Pier is a good venture as is going to Millennium Park or any of the museums.
Shopping you have North Bridge (It has the Nordstrom of the downtown area). There is the Michigan Ave area and State Street.
If you like tea try Argo Tea. (It is a tea cafe). There are a few of them splattered through the city and one in Evanston.
One of the things that I have always enjoyed doing is just walking around the city.
Breakfast try the Original House of Pancakes and either the Dutch Baby or the apple pancake. (There is one off of Rush Street.
There are all the different little villages also. (Andersonville, China Town, etc). if you can get hold of an Access Chicago that might be a big help.

How fun! I love birthday trips... well, all trips, really! I would have to urge you to travel to Lincoln Park to Webster's Wine Bar. They have an incredible wine selection at every price point & wonderful flights. The food is all done in small plates & I enjoy getting out of the central downtown to see different neighborhoods. Can't wait to hear about it when you return.

I live in Chicago :)

-Definitely do the architectural tour. It's the best bang for your buck. I wouldn't do a dinner cruise..
-The restaurants people have suggested so far seem great.
-I think Suburban Prep has covered the goods :)

I've never been to Chicago but isn't Ikram there? Michelle Obama's favorite shopping destination...at least before fashion came to her. I would make a stop there!

It is SUPERB! Casual, cozy and absolutely delicious. It's like a little slice of Heaven, only in pizza form! ;)

Cheers - have fun!
