Teaching is a tricky thing. Especially in Ohio. Instead of hiring new teachers, schools are laying off. Since December 2009 (my graduation) I've been stressing about finding a job. I was worried I would have to find a new career before mine even began. But a few weeks ago, a letter came in the mail to give me a tiny ray of hope. I scored an interview next Wednesday, in my hometown, which is hiring 7-14 teachers (mostly kindergarten). So teacher friends (or other friends who may be expert interviewees) I need advice... Questions to look out for? Things to avoid?
Anything you can give would be helpful. And please cross all your fingers for me!

Congrats! I am not in the teaching field but I am in HR and I can tell you to avoid asking questions about benefits right off the bat, to come equipped with lots of good questions, and some letters of recommendation are always helpful. Good luck!!!
Its a tough market for everyone. I wish you the best of luck. Be yourself. Do your homework about the school and what it prides itself on and maybe even a little history. The more you know the better. Get an edge on the competition any way you can. Oh and wear and AWESOME interview outfit!

Positivity! Always go in to an interview with a positive outlook, and you'll do well. You need to come with questions to ask the interviewer, and know the mission statement of the school.

oh good luck! always come with questions...ive learned from HR people always have something up your sleeve when they end with "do you have any questions for us"

I live in California, which is laying off SO many teachers. Even my cooperating teacher that I did my student teaching with was let go. Definitely a scary time, but that's great you have an interview! Best of luck. :D
