Red Velvet

Confession..I've never had red velvet cake. I've heard many people rave about it, and I think it looks yummy but if I want cake, I want chocolate! So what is red velvet cake? Is it simply vanilla cake dyed red? Does it taste good? Should I try it?

Oh my goodness! I'm from the south, and red velvet cake is a staple at all covered dishes, family dinners, etc. It's one of my most favorite! I can't really describe it, you just need to treat yourself :)

i'm a big advocate of red velvet cake haha. it's something you must try for yourself. it seems moister and richer than most cakes, plus the icing is the best part. now you've got me craving a piece!

I like Red Velvet cake, but I don't really get what all the fuss is about. I think its honestly just white cake, dyed red. Haha.

If you lived closer to me, I would make you red velvet cake / cupcakes! M'mmm soooo good =) Done right, it's not a chocolate cake... it's a velvety, moist, cake with just a hint of cocoa flavor. Too many people overbake and they come out dry or tasteless... or worse yet, both :( And it's gotta have a fabulous cream cheese frosting to go with it. OMG now I'm really wanting them! LOL! Check out this post from my site where I made them http://www.therepressedpastrychef.com/home/2008/6/8/allisons-amazing-red-velvet-cupcakes-wmy-magnificent-cream-c.html
Have a delicious day!

I can't believe you've never had red velvet cake. It's the most amazing thing. Like chocolate - but better, and with more awesome frosting. Get thee to somewhere with a red velvet cake!
